What I'm reading:  Priestess of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley and completed posthumously by Diana L. Paxson.

Highlight of my day: Oh, probably my lunch hour.  DH picked me up to take me to the Thai restaurant (in my city there is Only One.  Sort of like The Highlander.)  But they were closed for spring break!  So we went to the Pancake House, instead.  (Baby #3 has a thing for bacon.  Sort of like this lady.)  When I opened the car door, a $18.00 candle I'd bought from a friend's kid's fundraiser fell out and rolled under a green Jaguar parked next to us.  DH got down on his belly on the sidewalk, in his business suit, and fished it out for me.

My brother-in-law made this YouTube for a rhetoric class (he's working on a PhD.)  I don't understand it . . . it's all Charlie Brown grownup wah-wah-wah talk to me . . . but it's fun to see him and my sis on YouTube.

Turkey vulture 10, Eagle 0.

Today I was out in the back yard with my 4-year-old and the dogs, and we saw a turkey vulture kick a bald eagle's butt!  It dove at the eagle and swiped it with its claws.  The eagle did a few elegant flips in a free fall, and then flew away.  It was one angry turkey vulture!  I was kind of concerned that it might try to do the same thing to us, because I'd noticed it flying over the yard, earlier, checking us out.  Seems the wrong season for chicks, though, so I'm not sure what its problem is.  Last year a guy brought a turkey vulture to my 7-year-old's school.  He said that the huge flocks of them we see are all giant family groups.  He also said they are the second smartest bird in the world.

5 things on a Friday

Psyche Opening the Golden Box

1.  I'm pretty sure that I'm the person who started the whole "5 things on a Friday" posts in Live Journal Land.

2.  I'm 9 weeks pregnant today, and I just ate a pickle.  It was good.  My back hurts, though, and I have brain fog.  Since this is Third Baby, I'm showing.  Haven't had hardly any nausea, but have had some food aversions.  Don't show me the turkey. Don't let me smell the turkey.  Bleah.

3.  I'm almost done with my revisions on the unicorn book.  By the end of the month I should be contacting the agent who suggested them.

4.  I saw the Twilight movie yesterday, and liked it.  I'm looking forward to Coraline.

5.  Today at work I slid my fuzzy wool scarf (it's a giant knit tube) on over my clothes.  It looked like a big idiotic hair dress.  My friend and I shrieked and laughed.

5 things that made me smile

Christy Lenzi tagged me for the last 5 things that made me smile meme.   So, here they are:

1.  This post from   [info]poolhallace</lj> :   http://poolhallace.livejournal.com/41634.html

2.  This story:  My cousin has triplet almost-two-year-old boys.  Lately during naptime one of them has taken to hopping up and down in his crib until it bounces over to one of his brothers' cribs.  Then he climbs into his brother's crib and they take off all their clothes and pee everywhere.

3.  BBQ and crunch donuts for lunch.

4. The fact we'll be getting a memory foam mattress delivered Saturday.  Ahhhhh.

5.  Um.  Hmm.  Oh yeah--the boys received a bunch of glow in the dark bracelets (the kind teenagers wear at raves).  They waved them around in their room the dark.  I wasn't in the room.  One of the bracelets had a hole in it.  Their room ended up looking like the Milky Way Galaxy.

We're finally done remodeling upstairs.  We went with a lemon backsplash theme in the kitchen.  Here's what it looks like over the cooktop:

The ahahaha lady at the polling place

A friend of mine and her husband always like to take their kids with them when they vote.  On election day, my friend picked up her daughter from high school during the lunch hour, and they went to the polling place.  My friend let her daughter fill out the ballot.  As they were leaving, the elderly woman at the sign-in desk stopped them.

Sign-in woman (to daughter):  Dearie, you need to sign your name right here.

Daughter (while signing):  Why do I need to sign my name here?

Sign-in woman (pointing to my friend):  Because you helped that disabled lady right there.

My friend:  I'm not disabled.  This is my daughter--I just took her with me to vote.

Sign-in woman:  ahahaha!

So my friend and her daughter walked out of there kind of confused, but thinking "whatever!"  But then, at dinnertime, my friend's husband came home from voting, also looking quite confused.  When he went to the poling place and signed in, the sign-in woman said, "Oh, you're married to that disabled lady. ahahaha!"
